The Indo Projects
The concept of Slow Commerce seeks to encourage deceleration from our fast paced lives. It is about bringing conscious decision making and an appreciation of all things back into the main stream. This idea creates the space to make more conscious and responsible decisions that would positively effect our quality of life.
In this installation a cloud-like structure is constructed out of used to-go cups, which were sourced from local trash cans. These artifacts of our current culture were collected over a three day period, washed, and assembled. Collecting these cups generated conversations with businesses about the issue of waste and how it can be addressed. These conversations harnessed connections, awareness, and relationships, which is the first step to addressing the collective problems of society.
The idea of Slow Commerce can be utilized by everyone: secondhand stores, high-end retailers, grocers, farmers markets, local designers, shoppers. Everyone can encourage commerce to be more forward thinking — positively effecting our local community into the future.
